Also prior to surgery, invigorate and fortify your skin to help it withstand the rigors of surgery. After surgery, our treatments can speed healing and reduce edema (swelling caused by excess fluid in body), returning you more rapidly to your normal routine. Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD) Manual lymphatic drainage (MLD) is a therapy, developed by Dr. Vodder, by Dr. Emil Vodder and introduced in Paris in 1936. The lymph system is a network of tiny vessels in the body that merge to form larger vessels that connect to over 700 small filtering stations called lymph nodes. Lymph nodes vary in size and are grouped in clusters in various parts of the body. The lymphatic system plays a crucial role in maintaining a healthy fluid balance in the body. Lymph fluid circulates to nourish body tissue and eliminate waste. Since the lymphatic system has no pump, the lymph fluid must rely on the movementof muscles and the diaphragm and the pulsation of the arteries in order to circulate properly. Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD) therapy, with its gentle massage techniques, can manually remove blockages in the lymph system and restore proper lymph flow. The revived lymph system cleanses body tissue of accumulated toxins and pollutants, boosting the immune response and generally rejuvenating body tissue. MLD has been shown effective when used before and after surgical procedures such as facial cosmetic surgery, breast surgery, and liposuction. Treatments are given in the three days prior to surgery to stimulate the lymphatic system and prepare the skin. Post-surgical treatments can begin immediately after surgery (depending on type of procedure) and help reduce swelling, bruising and discomfort, and improve the skin's texture, elasticity and tone. MLD can also help balance the autonomic nervous
system, reducing stress and increasing the body’s ability to relax.
