Manual lymphatic drainage (MLD) is a therapy, developed by Dr. Vodder, by Dr. Emil Vodder and introduced in Paris in 1936. The lymph system is a network of tiny vessels in the body that merge to form larger vessels that connect to over 700 small filtering stations called lymph nodes.
MLD has been shown effective when used before and after surgical procedures such as facial cosmetic surgery, breast surgery, and liposuction. Treatments are given in the three days prior to surgery to stimulate the lymphatic system and prepare the skin. Post-surgical treatments can begin immediately after surgery (depending on type of procedure) and help reduce swelling, bruising and discomfort, and improve the skin's texture, elasticity and tone. MLD can also help balance the autonomic nervous
system, reducing stress and increasing the body’s ability to relax.
